Denmark's Unlikely Stakes in a Hong Kong Art Dispute The recent national security trial in Hong Kong has shed new light on an old controversy: the "Pillar of Shame" sculpture, created by Danish artist Jens Galschiot to commemorate the Tiananmen Square crackdown.

The High Court's verdict, which sent three former leaders of the pro democracy alliance to jail, has reignited debate over the fate of this eight meter tall artwork.

Galschiot claims ownership of the sculpture and is now asking his government to intervene in negotiations with Hong Kong officials for its return.
