Strait of Hormuz Standoff Escalates as Iran Strikes US Bases in Jordan The latest exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran has raised concerns about a renewed military confrontation that could have far reaching consequences for global energy markets and the fragile economies of the Middle East.
Last weekend's US strikes on Larak Island in southern Iran, which targeted launchers set to fire rockets carrying mines towards the Strait of Hormuz, prompted a swift retaliation from Tehran.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that its combined missile and drone operation, dubbed "Punishment of the Aggressor", destroyed technical and repair infrastructure as well as enemy fighter deployment sites at two US bases in Jordan.
