Firefighting in a Time of Warming: What's Changed, What's Not The Lucas fire in northern California has been largely contained after ravaging over 4,120 acres across Lake and Mendocino counties.
The firefighting efforts, led by Cal Fire and local authorities, have been extensive, involving 163 engines, 72 crews, dozens of water tenders, and eight helicopters.
However, the containment is only temporary, and the fire's impact will be felt for years to come. Nearly 900 people were forced to flee their homes, leaving behind uncertainty about when – or if – they can return.
